Jenny and her Trusty Turtle

I finished that mini from Hasslefree last week end and that was my entry for the Irregular Painting Competiton. I spent a lot of time on the base and a lot less on the miniature itself. It does show on some areas. I’m really not happy with the face particularly; I could have restarted it but decided to move on. Anyway hope you like it…

Anamorphic Art

There are lots of incredible artists but once in a while you stumble on one that just stands out and make you think: wow??!!!???

István Orosz was first gained recognition as a stage designer and for his work in animated film as animator and director. His posters and graphic art have featured in countless international design exhibitions, and he is well-known as a printmaker and illustrator too. He is perhaps best known for his renewal of the technique of anamorphosis.

Anamorphosis is an art of distorted projection or perspective requiring the viewer to use special devices or occupy a specific point to reconstitute the image. The art of Anamorphosis was invented in China and brought to Italy in the 16th century; about the time Renaissance artists like Leonardo da Vinci were mastering 3-D and discovering slant anamorphosis.

That’s the link for his website which is not the easiest to navigate:
http://www.utisz.net/

That’s the website I got the information from (they've got a nice selection of pictures):
http://www.funlobby.com/index.php/201004241651/anamorphic-art-by-istvan-orosz-19-images.html

Making Moulds

I have been making moulds for a while now so I thought I would share how I do it. This is not a tutorial or anything like that; just me recording the process I’m going through to make moulds. The pictures are just accompanied with a few shorts commentaries as this is quite self explanatory.
There are ground breaking techniques and is all stuff I learnt from websites and forums such as Hirst Arts, Terra genesis etc… The item I chose just happened to be the one I was sculpting when I decided to take pictures. It’s quite a plain, easy item but useful for my Mordheiming.
Anyway, hope you like it.

Carm'on Orksenal !!!

Let me introduce you to the Orksenal !!!

Orksenal Football Club is a professional Fantasy Football club based in the High Mountains of the Old World. One of the most successful club in Blood Bowl history, they have won 13 Leagues and 10 Orcidas Team of the Year. They hold the record for the longest uninterrupted period in the top flight and are the only side to have completed a Blood Bowl League season unbeaten.

Hall of Fame: Urgar Henry, Andrei “rabid” Orcshavin, Lee Rancid Dixon, Robert Foamface, Coach Arsene Wengstab.

Those pictures were taken at Ork Trafford while the home team was away playing against Wolves. This is only mentioned to explain the poor quality of the pitch on the pictures.

It has to be mentioned as well that the number 10 on those pictures is well and truly an Orksenal player despite bearing strong physical resemblance to another famous n°10 “Ork United” player.

Any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental !!!

Nightmare Galore

Stumbled on that artist today, I thought I would share it with you as I know that some people visiting this page like their horror stuff. Joshua Hoffine is a photograph specializing in horror photography. I find it very creepy and scary, that’s the link for his website:

Mordheiming: University base

Finally making a move on the building after having finished the minaret that will sit on top of its tower. Having sketched the whole thing, it has made things quicker when it comes to measurements and getting started. It’s so far one piece of Styrofoam that’s been carved and sculpted with a pencil and cutter.
It’s kind of difficult to explain but it’s quite tricky to make very smooth cuts and takes practice to know what kind of sharpness you need on your pencil. The piece needs some rework on areas and putty/filling job but I still base coated it to get an idea of how the paint is going to look. I’ve had problems in the past with paint foam resulting in funny textures and crackled paint. So far that looks ok^^.
I think I’ll get the base painted before fixing the walls which are next on my list. More to follow.

A suivre...

Mordheiming: Minaret

A small update about what I’ve been up to those past few days. I’ve been making some good progress on those orks for my Wamped entry. I’ll post the finished entry when the deadline is up. I’ve also been busy sculpting, well, ahem practising sculpting more exactly. This is the part that’s going to sit on top of the observatory tower. I found it quite difficult, specially keeping a very symmetric shape. I think it’ll look good on the tower with a few more details around it. It’s all been done in Sculpey except for the crescent and its base that have been done in Fimo. The crescent was a good practise at using the rotary tool as I’ll have to do a lot more of this, especially for weapons. I’ve also started to work on the base, hopefully I’ll update about that during week. I have also uploaded a photo montage of what I used as inspiration for this piece.

Mordheiming: The University

I said I really needed to sketch my buildings before doing them, so there it is. Unfortunately I’m drawing like a 6 years old so that’s not the prettiest of sketch. It’s more for me really as I used it to get the right measurements, shapes etc…I’ve made a start on the base and on the minaret roof.
Getting the right shape for the minaret roof is actually proving quite challenging; I hope to get it done an updated by the week end. Lot more to come…

Jenny and her trusty turtle

There is a quick update of a wip that will be my entry for the Irregular Magazine Competition. The theme is Sci-fi heroes and I didn’t have anything immediately fitting so I went a bit off rail. I had that mini from Hasslefree called “Jenny” (not the most obvious Heroic name) and decided to put her together with some kind of a servant/partner .The only thing I could find from the bit box was a turtle. As a pair I do think they look like probable sci-fi heroes. The deadline is at the end of the month so we’ll see how that goes!

Painting log

A quick update of what I’ve been painting over the week-end. First of all I apologize for the horrendous Orc picture. I took a lot of pictures of different things and didn’t have the energy to take some more so it’ll have to do. I didn’t make a lot of progress on both (the fountain + Orcs) but as I use this blog as self motivating I still update for it. The fountain is pretty much painted but I still have to finish the water effect. I think I’ll add some moss and water lilies.
However there is still a lot of work to do on the Orcs. I played a bit with some acrylic resin to make some fresh looking mud. I also spent quite some time on trying to create a white that’s kind of warm and slightly dirty. I still have all of the details to do: black/white patterns, eyes, bases, metals and leather. It should be done before deadline though…hopefully.

Breaking Clay Artist

I just stumbled on that artist yesterday and thought some of the pictures were really great. I’m just showing a few that I liked. His name is Martin Klimas and his website is here. Kind of hobby related except he’s doing it the other way round.

Mordheiming: Interchangeable fountain

A quick update on what’s going on about the Mordheiming thing. I finished a fountain which will be at the centre of the first square. The idea behind it was to make it interchangeable meaning that I can change the statue that goes on top (as shown on the pictures). I’m currently trying to make latex moulds as it’s a pretty rough piece. I’ll try to paint it next week and have fun with realistic water.
