Mansions of Madness – Fully painted

That will be the last post of the series, only maybe a quick review of the game although that’s not really my favourite thing to do. I include 3 pictures: monsters, investigators and everybody together. It was a great pleasure to paint this box; overall the minis were very nice, especially if you like that genre. The one bad point was the material in which the minis are casted; it’s a rubbery plastic really not easy to work. The minis are painted to a decent tabletop level I think, I could have spent more time on them but a line has to be drawn, they are for playing. I think it’s going to be interesting to get them out to play and see people using them, not too sure how I’m going to carry them though. Anyway, I’m going to paint another “classic” board game next, more to come on that…

  6. really nice! that is going to make the game much more fun to play... next is painting another classic board game? Hmm... taking those little blue & pink pegs that come with 'The Game of LIFE' and painting them to look like people? That'd be quite a challenge ;)

  7. I'll echo that: congratulations and well done, not only for getting through them all, but for doing it to such a high standard. Anyone who gets to play with this box is a very lucky person indeed.

  13. These posts (together with some reviews of the game) make me want to go pick up Mansions of Madness. The one question to you is how easy was it to remove the bases of the minis to swap them for the bases you have here? Is the plastic that bad to work with, or do you just need a sharp knofe and a bit of patience?

  14. Hi Derek,

if I remember correctly the miniatures don't come fixed on their bases so if you want to use other bases then that's no problem at all. I used the original clipping for the monsters are it's pretty tight and didn't feel like they needed pinning. However I pinned the investigators to their new bases. The plastic in which they come is very easy to drill.
My problem with it was that when you want to remove the mold lines, you can't really use a file or it just goes rough. That means that it's difficult to get smooth textures. What I did was using a knife to remove the mold lines (most models aren't that bad) then used a lot of liquid green stuff then pva glue to get smooth areas on things like cloth or weapons.
Don't let this stop you from getting the box though, it's a bit of extra work but there's always is some prep work...

  15. These are just wonderful! How do they stack up against 28mm figs from other manufacturers (like Coppelstone?)

    thanks

  16. @Paul: I don't have any Copplestone right now but I'd say they are pretty standard 28mm, they'd fit perfectly with them.

    Bravo.
