Mansions of Madness - Chthonians

I’ve had this game since last Christmas and decided to finally get the minis out and painted. I’m planning on bringing it to the gaming group; hopefully well painted minis will at least get some interest going. I’m starting with the monsters and going on a quick/efficient paint job not looking back. The minis are very quick to put together with minimal mold lines. The only bad point about them is the material in which they’re cast in. It’s a weird rubbery type of plastic that is quite difficult to work with, filing doesn’t really work as it creates a very rough texture. I used liquid green stuff to deal with the mold lines instead.

Anyway, great set of minis in the box, really made me nostalgic of the times I used to run “Call of Cthulhu” games, wish I had those at the time.

Chaos Dwarf Skull Cracker

Here comes my Chaos Dwarf weekly update…well almost. I just finished this one today, Tabletop standard. It was a real difficult kit to assemble, some of the dwarves having each hand supposedly fixing on 2 different parts, a lot of the pieces quite awkward and sticking out. I found it hard but the painting was a bit more straightforward, almost, the difficulty was making so much metal stand out. The pictures are not great as I think it looks much much better in real. Link if you fancy:

Next up and last is the “Dreadquake Mortar”. I wanted to keep this one for the end as this looks by far the biggest and more complicated kit of the lot and wanted the practice of “smaller” ones before. Big, seriously big kit, I can sense a base issue coming up again…

Chaos Dwarf Iron Daemon + New Base

This piece was pretty much finished for a few days but the base was a bit of an issue. The problem was the sheer hugeness of the model that wouldn’t fit on anything ever created. So I created one 115x75 based on the previous temple floor style. It will be available for sale whenever the website is ready as some people might find it useful if they ever paint insanely big pieces.

Anyway, coming back to the “Iron Daemon”…It was great fun to paint, lots of metal. I tried to weather it a bit more than previous ones. Hope you like it, here’s the CMON link if you fancy it:

Empire Witch Hunter

I did this one over the week end. A really good looking mini, so Mordheimesque, I was really looking forward to painting it. However, in my excitement, I forgot it was one of the Finecast range. I’ve had trouble with a few ogres before from that range but nothing like this one. The casting was awful, seriously bad, I don’t think there was any part of his clothing or his body that wasn’t missing something nor had some terrible bubble holes. So much work went into the assembling and filling, it’s unreal for such a simple/single mini.

Anyway, once fixed, it was very much enjoyable to paint for Tabletop commission work. I don’t know what’s going on with my pictures at the moment; don’t seem to be able to get it right. Next, an engineer from the same range.

Chaos Dwarf Skull Cracker WIP

Another week, another chaos dwarf piece…This one was particularly difficult to put together. This kit came into 60 pieces, again each one of them needed some work, and lots of them didn’t fit well together. A few of the pieces were either not very well cast or very fragile which made the assembly a real pain (the chains were just awful). All together I think it took me about 8-9 hours again.

Another thing as well that seriously bothers me is the fact that despite a price of £60.00 it does not come with its own base. On top of that, the piece is so big that there are no bases available from GW or Forge World for them. I’m currently converting a 100x60 base into a 115x75 which will work but frustrates me.

Anyway, still need to be prepped, puttied then painting, despite all these problems it does look good I think!!!

120mm Round Bases

I wasn’t really planning on making more bases for a while but I’ve been asked to by Mark who wanted larger versions of my “Laboratory bases”. He actually wanted 120mm sizes of these which again is something I was definitely not planning on doing.
Anyway, Mark Berkley kindly drew 3 different designs and I did the rest. Here they are on the pictures, 3 x 120mm resin bases with a lip and arc markers which are useful for some games or can be filed down if not needed.

I’ll selling them on EBay (widget on the right hand side) for now as I’m still waiting on the website and I’m selling them through the Blog too. If you don’t do EBay and would like a different design than the one on the picture just make a quick note when you buy it or contact me before placing an order. Bases sold through the Blog will be shipped worldwide for £3.50.
