Ruined Mordheim Town House

I wasn’t planning on showing any of this but I’m sure the customer won’t mind as this is indeed some commission work. A ruined town house to be played on a Mordheim board with pretty much “carte blanche”. I made a base with Styrofoam with the idea of having an outside part of the house with a banister. I used a few GW door frame and windows.

I still need to add parts of the roof, rubbles, finish the banister and general wood work on the walls.



Je n’avais pas l’intention de montrer mon progrès sur ce projet mais je suis sur que ca ne dérangera pas le client, il s’agit d’une commande en effet. En gros, carte blanche pour une maison en ruine qui sera utilisé sur une table Mordheim. J’ai fais un socle en polystyrène, l’idée étant d’avoir une balustrade à l’extérieur et un genre de balcon jouable. J’ai utilisé des cadres de fenêtres et porte GW.

Il me reste pas mal de boulot dessus : des parties de toit, la balustrade, des ruines et la structure en bois.

Casualties of War

“Casualties of War” is a series of plastic soldiers designed by Dorothy Collective that shows some of the troubles that await returning American veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The figurines are inspired by articles in the Colorado Springs Gazette .

In July 2009 they published a two-part series entitled “Casualties of War”. The articles focused on a single battalion based at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, who since returning from duty in Iraq had been involved in brawls, beatings, rapes, drunk driving, drug deals, domestic violence, shootings, stabbings, kidnapping and suicides.

Returning soldiers were committing murder at a rate 20 times greater than other young American males.

Finished, basta, you have to stop sometimes and consider the thing finished. I could have carried on for a while but the massive pile to my right makes me think that I need to move on.

Overall, I’m happy enough with it. The skin really isn’t great, I wanted to do a very suntanned skin but I ended up pushing too much the reds and browns. There are a few rough areas; the sword does actually look better than what it is on the picture. I followed a quick tut for the gems which worked really well, some of them really popping out.

For the base that was a Sculpey job, fairly simple but I wanted something flat, Sahara-like, egyptian. A few bits from the garden to fluff it a bit and some flowers from A***.

It was a great pleasure to paint, as I already said, this was one of my all times favourite mini but there are plenty more to follow…



Fini, basta, terminée, il y a un moment ou il faut s’arrêter. J’aurais pu y passer quelques heures encore mais il y a une pile à ma droite qui me nargue^^.

Dans l’ensemble, je suis assez satisfait du résultat. La peau n’est pas terrible, je voulais faire une peau très bronzée mais à l’arrivée j’ai trop poussé les rouges et les marrons. Il y a quelques zones assez brouillonnes ; l’épée est mieux que ce qu’elle apparait sur la photo par contre. J’ai suivi un tut pour les gemmes qui a bien marché, certaines petent vraiment.

Pour le socle, c’était une affaire de Sculpey, simple et je voulais quelque chose de plat, Saharesque, égyptien. Quelques éléments du jardin et des fleurs de chez A***.

C’était un grand plaisir de peindre une telle figurine, comme je l’ai déjà dis, une de mes préférées mais y’en a d’autres à venir…

As the title says, I’m starting to sell my medieval town house. It is hand-crafted with parts being casted in resin. It will therefore come assembled and ready to be painted. I’m not going to go into heavy descriptions, dimensions, weight etc…as the pictures speak for themselves. Un petit peu d’autopromotion aujourd’hui…

Comme le dit le titre, je commence à mettre en vente ma maison médiévale. C’est tout fait main avec des éléments tirés en résine. Cela veut dire que le bâtiment est vendu déjà assemblé et prêt à être peint. Je ne vais pas me lancer dans une grande description, donner les dimensions, le poids etc.…vu que les photos parlent pour elle-même. Cependant j’ai toutes ces infos dispos si vous en avez besoin, donc n’hésitez pas a me contacter.

Pour le moment, les premières sont en vente sur EBay (lien en haut en droite de mes pièces en vente ou juste au dessus pour le lien direct) avec le système d’enchères mais les suivantes seront en achat direct. Incredible LEGO creations

The work is from Alex Eylar. He’s using those bricks to re-create historical scenes. It doesn't sound like anything new but looking at his website you can see the vast array of themes. From the past to the future, steampumk to zombies, he plays on every popular subject. I particularly liked projects such as “7 dirty words” and “Arkham Asylum”.

The first picture I put up was the famous scene from the Osama bin Laden killing. This scene recreates the moment US President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and colleagues crowded round a TV in the Situation Room to watch...

Les créations sont d’Alex Eylar. Il utilise des briques de LEGO pour recréer des scènes historiques. Jusque la rien de nouveau mais en regardant sur son site web, on peut voir la variété des thèmes abordés. Du passé au futur, du Steampunk aux zombies, il touche à tous les sujets populaires. J’ai particulièrement aimé les projets comme “7 dirty words” et “Arkham Asylum”.

La première photo que j’ai mis est celle de la scène de la maison blanche pendant le raid sur le bunker d’Osama Bin Laden…

Chess Set

Finished, done and dusted! For now…
I couldn’t get any decent pictures of it so that will have to do. I grouted the board yesterday which was hell. It took me about 6 hours to do the whole thing as I was trying not to damage the painting. Anyway, it’s done. The pieces on display are pieces I painted last year. I’m not too pleased with them and I’ve got another set base coated and ready to paint but that will be for later.
Overall I’m quite pleased with the set, it’s pretty big, look good and more importantly makes you want to play chess.


In terms of cost:

- Europacrafts Mandarin chess set moulds: £31.00
- Plaster + paint: £5.00 (estimated)
- Board frame: £51.00
- Grout £10.00


So a total of about £100.00 which is quite a lot really. However I still have those moulds which I might sell and I’ve already casted another set. I still think it’s worth it as the whole piece is quite big and impressive and would cost a hell of a lot more.



Finito, basta…pour l’instant^^. Je ne suis pas arrivé à tirer de bonnes photos mais ca va devoir faire l’affaire. J’ai passé 5-6 heures à faire les joints ce qui s’est avéré être une grosse galère vu que j’évitais de détériorer la peinture. Les pièces sur les photos sont des pièces temporaires car je ne suis pas très satisfait de mon job de peinture dessus et j’ai déjà un autre set prêt à peindre. Pas tout de suite par contre…

Dans l’ensemble je suis assez satisfait du résultat, le set est imposant, a bonne gueule et donne envie de jouer aux échecs.

En termes de couts :

- Europacrafts, moules échecs Mandarin : 34 euros
- Plâtre + peinture : estimation 11 euros
- Cadre en bois : 58 euros
- Jointures : 11 euros

Donc un total d’à peu prés 115 euros, ce qui est assez élevé. Par contre, j’ai toujours les moules que je vais revendre et j’ai déjà fais un deuxième set de pièces prêt a peindre. Je pense que ca valait le cout tout de même car l’ensemble est assez impressionnant et m’aurait coute beaucoup plus.

Anton Semenov

Here are some very inspiring psychedelic Illustrations by Anton Semenov, a Designer from Russia. Some of his characters really made me think about “Pan’s Labyrinth” and Guillermo Del Toro crazy world. I particularly like the pictures from his folder “City of Decay”. Chess Board WIP

That’s a project that’s been on hold for a few months as I was getting stuck with it. Looking back at the blog, it’s in November last year the last time I updated about it. Well, I’m determined to finish the whole thing within the next 2 weeks as I try to clear some of those side projects.

My last November update was about the tiles and trying paintings effects. Last week, I casted 64 of them. I had previously bought an mdf board (60x60cm) that I got framed with dark hardwood. I glued the tiles on the board and am currently painting them. I still need to apply a few glazes and highlights then varnish.
Next, I’ll have to make the joints with some grout (feel that’s going to be a pain) and maybe treat the wood. I’ve been told to use some Tung oil for a mat finish.

Hopefully, it will be done by next week, however I ran out of Testor Dullcote which might slow me down, nice to have an excuse!!!



Un projet qui était un peu en suspens ces derniers mois vu que j’hésitais sur quelle direction prendre. La dernière fois que je l’ai mentionné sur le blog remonte au mois de novembre 2010. La bonne nouvelle, c’est que je suis déterminé à le finir ce mois ci !!!

Sur mon dernier post a ce sujet, je parlais des carreaux et des effets peinture. La semaine dernière, j’ai donc tiré 64 carreaux. J’ai fais encadré une planche avec un bois dur foncé. J’ai collé les carreaux sur la planche et suis en train de les peindre. Il reste quelques glacis à faire, des éclaircissements et vernir le tout. Apres cela, il me faudra faire les joints et traiter le bois.

J’espère finir l’échiquier bientôt mais je viens juste de terminer mon vernis ce qui risque de me ralentir…Enfin, c’est mon excuse…

Display Tile

I finally managed to get something finished this week-end. I’m going to keep the update short as this is not the most riveting item I’ve ever done. I’m only mentioning it on the blog because it’s something that will be useful and took me ages to get done. The picture is pretty rubbish too which doesn’t help, it does look better.

From the previous WIP post, all I’ve done is apply washes (snakebite leather, bronzed flesh or bubonic brown) on selected tiles to create something more varied. Then a few highlights and a solid varnishing.

I’ll be using this next as a display for my houses or other scenery projects. Definitely due an update about the houses this week…



J’ai réussi l’exploit de terminer quelque chose ce weekend. Je vais faire rapide vu qu’il ne s’agit pas du projet le plus excitant de l’année. Je ne le mentionne sur le blog seulement car c’est un objet qui me sera utile et parce que cela m’a pris très longtemps pour le finir. La photo est moisie ce qui n’aide pas mais la tuile est pas mal en vrai.

Depuis le dernier post sur cette pièce, je n’ai fais qu’appliquer quelques glacis (tout de GW, je ne connais pas les noms en Français : snakebite leather, bronzed flesh ou bubonic brown) sur quelques tuiles au hasard pour créer quelque chose de varié. Quelques éclaircissements puis vernissage.

Je l’utiliserais pour exhiber mes maisons ou autres décors. Je dois faire un post cette semaine sur les maisons…

Knuffingen Airport

Well, with Blogger playing with us, it gives me a chance to re-edit yesterday post about the airport.

I know this has been around a lot of forums but this is really great .
The largest model airport in the world is located at the Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg, Germany.

Spread over an area of 150 square meters, Knuffingen Airport features 40 different airplanes that take off and land up to 360 times each day.

More than 150,000 working hours and 3.5 million Euros have been invested in this amazing project. The airport is now open to the public.

Bin Laden’s compound

Paint log: Layla bint suraya bint javaira (2)

A quick update about what I’ve been up to. I’ve mainly been painting scenery and revamping the pictures of the stuff I’m selling. I also found some time to make some progress on Layla. It’s a really enjoyable mini to paint so I’m taking my time with it. The gold lining on the horse is a bit of a hassle however and I still need to highlight/shadow it.

I apologize for the quick picture but I don’t really have a spot dedicated to taking pictures yet. I’m about to move house so hopefully I’ll be able to set up one in the next house.

Anyway, still lots to do on that one!!!


Une petite mise à jour rapide…J’ai essentiellement peint des décors cette semaine et ai travaillé sur mes photos pour EBay. J’ai aussi réussi à caser quelques heures sur Layla. Qu’est ce que j’adore cette mini !!! Alors je prends mon temps avec^^. Le surlignage à l’or sur le cheval a été un peu galère et c’est pas fini, je dois encore faire des ombres/éclaircissements dessus.

Je m’excuse pour la photo à l’arrache mais je n’ai pas d’endroit dédié à la photo chez moi donc c’est un peu tout un trafic quand je dois faire des photos décentes. Je dois bientôt déménager donc j’espère que je pourrais m’organiser un coin « studio photo ».

Bref, encore pas mal de boulot dessus !!!

Looking for a nanny !!!

A bit of a “Coup de coeur” for something I stumbled on Facebook this morning. I couldn’t find lots of information about the sculptor besides the fact that she is French and called Nelly. The blog seems to be a joint venture and features some astonishing work, it’s called N-S Prod:

The kit in the picture is called “Recherche Nounou” (“Looking for a nanny”) and is 200% responsible for the “Coup de Coeur” I mentioned before, I absolutely love it. It’s such an original sculpt with so many little details, really great. Hope you like it too !!!

Going West

A while ago, I wrote a post about a Russian collective working under the pseudo “Peopletoo” who were making superb paper work and scenery. I think I just found something that really pushes the thing further. The company is called Andersen M Studio and is based in London. They work in graphic design, animation, film and music. This video is called “Going West”, inspired by a novel from New Zealander Maurice Gee. I find it absolutely stunning; hope you’ll like it too. Check their website too as there is plenty of interesting stuff.

Il y a quelques semaines de ça, j’avais écrits un post sur un collectif de créateurs Russes travaillant sous le pseudo « Peopletoo » qui travaillait avec le papier. Je crois que je viens de trouver une compagnie qui pousse le bouchon encore plus loin. Elle s’appelle Andersen M Studio et est basée à Londres. Ils travaillent dans le design, animation, cinéma et musique. Cette vidéo s’appelle « Going West », inspirée d’une nouvelle de l’écrivain Maurice Gee de Nouvelle Zélande. Je la trouve vraiment superbe, j’espère que ca vous plaira aussi.

Display tile WIP

Something I’ve been working on this week end. I’m planning on using that tile to display mainly houses and scenery stuff I’m selling. I thought about this as I was getting bored of always using the same backdrop technique to display things on camera.

The tile itself is a 30x30cm piece of Styrofoam. I used a pencil to shape/carve it. It actually was very long to do, really long; it probably took me around 7-8 hours. I know it sounds crazy long but the thing with carving small details on foam is that you really need to prevent it from “crumbling” or it will be too messy to paint. The only way to do that is to have a very sharp pencil and go slowly (for me anyway). It does mean as well that I wasted 2 pencils, never thought it would be possible.

Anyway, once carved, I applied a couple of PVA glue layers to seal the foam. I, then, applied 2 basecoats of dove grey and a quick dark sepia wash.

Next, finish the paint job + varnish + silflor details maybe.



Voila sur quoi j’ai travaillé ce weekend end. Je prévoie de l’utiliser pour exposer mes maisons et éléments de décors. J’ai pensé à faire ca car je commençais à en avoir marre de toujours utiliser la même technique pour mes photos.

Le carreau est une pièce de polystyrène de 30x30cm. J’ai utilisé un crayon pour sculpter les pavés. Ca a été long, très long ; ca m’a pris 7-8 heures à peu prés. Ca parait super long mais le truc à savoir pour sculpter le polystyrène c’est qu’il faut vraiment l’empêcher de « s’émietter » ou sinon ca sera trop la galère à peindre. Le seul moyen pour empêcher ca est d’utiliser un crayon très appointé et d’y aller doucement. Deux crayons y sont passés en tout, je n’aurais jamais cru ça possible.

Une fois les pavés sculptés, j’ai mis 2 couches de colle pva pour fixer le polystyrène. S’en sont suivis 2 couches de base gris colombe et un glaçage de sépia foncé.

A suivre, finir la peinture, vernir puis rajouter quelques détails.

Chan Kwok Hung’s buffalos

I was browsing the Sony World Photography awards 2011 winners and thought this picture was absolutely amazing. That is some incredible action shot and won in the sport category. It was taken in West Sumatra of Indonesia, farmers will held the buffalo race at the muddy rice fields and usually after the rice harvested, they believe will be lucky if their buffalo win the race. That’s got to be one the craziest race in the world.
The name of the photographer is Chan Kwok Hung and I couldn’t find massive information on him, just a picture he took last year, about sport again, stunning as well.

Je regardais la galerie des gagnants du concours de photographie Sony 2011 et j’ai trouvé cette photo vraiment fantastique. Un moment d’action incroyable et il a gagné dans la catégorie « sport ». Cette photo a été prise en Indonésie, chaque année les fermiers font une course de buffles dans les champs de riz boueux. Je crois que ca doit être un des événements sportifs les fous qu’il soit.
Le photographe s’appelle Chan Kwok Hung, je n’ai pas réussi à trouver beaucoup d’informations à son sujet, juste une autre photo, sur le sport encore. J’ai mis le lien de la galerie sur le « Telegraph ».
